Charosa Winery

Dindori, Nasik , Maharastra

Master Plan:

The gentle landscape of the Charosa hills called for a strategic master plan based on a detailed study of the topography to plan for a comprehensive and sustainable winery domain. We identified the long ranges hills towards the North, the close by hillocks, nallahs and series of interconnected lakes as key points to read and intervene into the landscape.

We proposed the south lake near the village to install the winery between the access road and the lake, with adequate south facing slope and space to expand laterally at a later stage, towards east. The Northern lake is suited for the wine “chateau”, a boutique hotel cum executive guest facilities just above the lake with full panoramic view and a short walk distance to the fine dining restaurant visually “floating” on the lake side.

We propose to relocate the implementation farm building to the nursery site, directly accessible by road on a small plateau, overlooking the domain. The land evacuated near the lake will then give room for a planted visitor’s parkway at walk able distance from the restaurant around the lake.

We propose a series of large concrete vaults that would allow maximum span without internal columns. Structurally, vaults use the least amount of material for the maximum coverage, required to install large tanks and barrels. It will also offer a good thermal mass and permit the plantation of wines on the roof, merging the building into the landscape from outside.
